Resume

Burke Consulting’s founder Shane Burke has over 20 years industry experience to draw from. Before setting up Burke Consulting he worked in a variety of industries including petrochemical, chemical, plastics, animal nutrition, shipping, transport and storage, healthcare, manufacturing and waste industries. Since setting up this company he has also worked in the food services, civil construction, tourism and local authorities. His experience is in operational management as well as the functional fields of health and safety, human resources and training in large national and multinational roles in leadership positions.

Several of Shane’s roles have involved direct reports and he has achieved excellent results from the teams he has lead. Shane attributes this success to a combination of getting the best from his team, developing and implementing change though operational managers and the desire to get things done.

Shane has extensive experience in developing and implementing the foundational systems and processes which allow organisations to meet their basic compliance needs and then growing the established system to increase performance. He has supported these systems with a variety of leading and lagging performance indicators that identify the initiatives that achieve the best results and the areas that require further attention.

His pragmatic approach combines best practice with ensuring organisational fit and suitability, integrating systems and processes so that the health and safety, human resource and training requirements become part of everyday management.

Some of Burke Consulting's recent projects include:

  • Hazard review for a major civil construction company
  • Developing a hazard management process and hazard database
  • Development of employment agreements and job descriptions
  • Human Resource and Health and Safety KPI’s and reporting processes
  • Audit, write a health and safety management system and provide implementation advice for ACC WSMP Programme
  • Business continuity planning for pandemic influenza outbreak
  • Contractor management and audit system
  • Restructure and redundancy process
  • Providing training and implementing training and development systems
  • Hazardous Substances and New Organisms management system advice
